He can tell about his moms experiences with crab apples with detail, and closes with his thoughts on apples. 2. 1.W.5- With guidance and support from adults, focus on a topic, respond to questions and suggestions from peers, and add details to strengthen writing as needed. a. He can stay on topic of crab apples and provide details 3. 1.RL.7- Use illustrations and details in a story to describe its characters, setting, or events. a. He uses pictures to show first mom with apple trees, then him and mom eating apples together. 4. 1.RL.3- Describe characters, setting, and major events in a story using key details a. He can tell readers who is involved and what happens in his story 5. 1.W.1- write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic….supply a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure. a. He can give his opinion to close a piece.
He can include details of a story and his own opinion about apple to close the piece. Next, looking at the 1.W.1 standard his next step would be providing a reason for his opinion. Instead of just stating his opinion, I would encourage him to tell me WHY he feels this way. Pulling together details from the story already used may be a way to do this.
